ORIENTATION TASKS  - Returning BJA & Faver students -- if you were in BJA or Faver last year, this is for you!!!!

The activities are required and will be graded. Additional activities will be added daily until all tasks have been covered and courses have been added to your account. IF you do not have access to a device that will connect to the internet during these first three days, please email us at bja@guthrieps.net. For those who have applied for a District-issued Chromebook, you should be receiving a notification in the next couple of days that it is ready for pickup.

TASK 2:

Various Student Resources are available for your Edgenuity Courses.

The various options available on Edge Toolbars are shown below. The course type determines the tools available.

  • The top icon, a highlighter, has multiple colors of highlight to be used on the pages.
  • The next icon, a calculator, has five types of calculators available for use.
  • The third icon, a bell curve or "arrow", provides graphs or charts for the course.
  • The last icon, the ABC book, links to the Grammar Handbook.

Answer the following questions in an e-mail to BJA@guthrieps.net. Remember, full sentences with proper grammar usage.

Click on this link to view the Grammar Handbook.

What information does the Handbook provide about Passive Voice & Subjunctive Mood?

What information does the Handbook provide about the four instances Quotation Marks are used?

In every course, a Live Tutor is available for extended hours. Once courses are assigned, you will be requested to interact with this option.

PART 3:

Sending an appropriate e-mail.

  • Always be polite.
  • Use proper English grammar and spelling -- this is not a text to a friend.
  • Include the specific course name & assignment being discussed.
  • Do not start a message or conversation with "Hey."
  • Always use an informative subject line-- do NOT type the email in the subject line!!
  • Type the message in the body of the e-mail -- not in the subject line.
  • Only use your school email for school correspondence.

Click this link to access the Email Tasks Cards on Google Slides. Complete the lesson. Share your work with bja@guthrieps.net or faver@guthrieps.net.

TASK III:

Plagiarism. Such a very important topic! Click here for this task. (Please view in slideshow view.)

We are also going to guide you through Transcript Reviews, but I'm waiting for the appropriate access to be granted. Have patience.

Edgenuity Experience Overview Video -- pay attention to the Guided Notes information! Guided notes practically guarantee a passing grade. There is no excuse for not completing them. Remember, they can be used on your final exam and for BONUS POINTS!

AI - Artificial Intelligence Report:
How the Edgenuity Generative AI Detector works

Our Generative AI Detector tool functions very similarly to AI tools like ChatGPT. Content created by AI tools is created as the result of “training” that occurs by scanning numerous amounts of human-written source text. The AI tool then creates the content based on its training.

The Generative AI Detector was trained to detect AI-generated responses by using similar algorithms. The Generative AI Detector is trained on trillions of pages of publicly available human-written content from thousands of universities and enterprises worldwide. Our detector uses its training to determine the probability that the submitted content was generated by a human or an AI tool.

AI content detection is included in the PDF report with the Plagiarism Checker.

TASK IV:

BJA students only: Today, your task is the completion of your Teacher Adviser ZOOM conference. If over the last few days you have attended your ZOOM meeting with your Teacher Adviser, you're finished for today after you read & completed this entire task post. If you have had your ZOOM conference today or one scheduled for tomorrow, you're done for the day after you read & completed this entire task post. IF YOU HAVE NOT COMPLETED YOUR ZOOM MEETING, please read your e-mail closely and contact your Teacher Adviser ASAP to schedule your ZOOM meeting. Then read and complete this entire task post.

Your course report will detail each day's assignments so you can remain on track. No assignments are scheduled for school break days, such as Labor Day, Martin Luther King Day, Thanksgiving Break, etc. You CAN work on your coursework on those days to get caught up or ahead.

NOTES:

  • A student cannot return to the traditional school site after the fifth (5th) day of the semester.
  • Students will be required to come to campus for training as needed, coursework assistance if behind or struggling, final exams, state-mandated exams, iCAP activities, and at other times as deemed necessary.
  • For OSSAA-sanctioned activities, weekly eligibility will apply which includes: having an Actual Grade of 60% or higher in all courses, being "on track" in all classes, and participating in a weekly face-to-face meeting with the teacher adviser at the designated time. This meeting can be via Zoom at the scheduled time weekly. Your Teacher Adviser will let you know when that check-in time is. If you are participating in an OSSAA-sanctioned activity (Band, Cheer, Vocal, FFA, FACS, Athletics, Meridian Tech, etc.) email your Teacher Adviser today with your class/activity name(s), the hour you are in that class, and your teacher/sponsor's name. If you are not a blended student (i.e. participating in courses/activities at the HS or JH) send an email to BJA@guthrieps.net and state that you are not taking classes at the high school.
  • Be aware that parent & student contact throughout the year will be via e-mail and the internet-based courseware portal.
  • It is highly recommended that students have access to a printer. This will allow you to print the Guided Notes for your courses. Or, you can use an Adobe extension in Google/Chrome, and convert the Guided Notes to form-fillable style. Notes can be used as bonus points on your final exam.
  • The Edgenuity Concept Coach/On-Demand Tutor is a resource you need to utilize for your courses. If you have a question about a specific activity or essay, your Teacher Adviser can explain it to you in more detail.
  • ZEROs, "Just give me a zero," "I don't care, whatever" and like statements and phrases will not be tolerated. Turning in blank assignments or the same assignment for every submission, will not be tolerated.  You can be removed from the program if you fail to follow these guidelines. You will lose a semester's worth of credit in that case.
  • PAY ATTENTION to the due dates on your courses. Most generally they are due a week before the semester ends. The following few days will be used for final exam sessions at Faver School. Seniors, in May, your courses will be due an additional week in advance, due to course completion and graduation program & final transcript reviews. You'll have time for your courses, but you must finish by the due dates.

Let us know if you have questions!
