Guthrie Public Schools is pleased to offer virtual educational options for students in grades 7-12. Students who apply and are accepted into the program will be able to take up to 100 percent of their courses online. Students will also have the option to participate in blended learning with some courses taken at GHS or GJHS and the remainder online. These blended opportunities include core course and AP course offerings as well as participating as a BlueJay in activities including Athletics, Band, Vocal, Art, and J-ROTC.
BlueJay Academy is free of charge to students accepted to the program. Students, however, must have access to reliable internet and a computer for 6-8 hours per day in order to receive instruction and complete assignments.
Bluejay Academy is located at 1021 East Perkins and can be contacted at 405-282-5941.
About the program
The program targets students who live in the Guthrie Public Schools district and are looking for an alternative educational setting through online classes. At the same time, these students still have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities like band, vocal, cheer, JROTC, or athletics. By enrolling in Bluejay Academy, students are also a member of their grade-level appropriate school, with the ability to participate in the full array of clubs, programs, and activities offered at their school site.
All students accepted into Bluejay Academy are required to take four rigorous core courses and three elective classes per semester. Students will be able to proceed at their own pace with an option to work ahead and progress at a faster rate if they desire. Students will be required to meet with a certified Guthrie Public School instructor weekly to check and monitor progress. Each student will have tutoring available from a highly qualified Guthrie Public Schools instructor Monday through Friday from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm.
Bluejay Academy is designed for students who are highly motivated and have strong parental support of academics at home. It is not for students who struggle academically; however, it may be a good option for students who struggle with social/emotional issues.
To be eligible for BlueJay Academy, students entering grades 7-12 this fall must live in Guthrie Public Schools district, be enrolled full-time with Guthrie Public Schools, and may not be enrolled in any other program or school (private, online, or homeschool). Applications will be evaluated based on academic performance, attendance, motivation, and home academic support.
