Health and Fitness Class Syllabus
This course will provide you with a basic understanding of fitness and nutrition. You will learn about exercise safety, nutrition, and the importance of staying active throughout your lifetime. You will set goals and participate in weekly physical activity.
This course will help you understand the basics behind what it means to be physically fit, learn how your body functions and the science behind exercise.
You will:
Learn the skills necessary to perform a variety of exercises
Understand the lifelong benefits that come from increasing your levels of daily activity
Learn concepts and strategies to improve overall health and fitness
Make food choices that will help you feel good and perform well
Classes will consist of cardio, strength training, and stretching exercises each week. We will also incorporate aspects of nutrition with activities each week. 
You must come to class properly dressed for physical activity. If you do not have proper attire you will lose your participation for that day. The following clothes are essential for safety and performance:
Athletic shoes: should NOT have an unnaturally high heel and should COMPLETELY enclose the foot. They should secure tightly around the feet to support feet and ankles.
Clothing:  sweat pants/athletic shorts/ T-shirts should meet school dress code requirements. Avoid clothing that is too loose or too restrictive. If athletic shorts are worn, compression shorts must be worn underneath. If athletic leggings are worn, a shirt must completely cover the front and back – no crop tops or short shirts. Bike shorts/spandex shorts cannot be worn as athletic shorts. A sports bra is required for female students.


Grading:
You will earn grades based on participation and completion of various fitness and nutrition activities. In addition to appropriate attire, please bring paper and a pencil/pen to class each day.
