Kathleen Jensen
Librarian

Plan time: This changes daily please see Daily Schedule for details

My name is Kat Jensen and I am looking forward to working with you this year. This will be a very exciting year full of fun and learning. I always strive to make all the student's library experiences their favorite part of their school experience. It is important that students are excited to learn and grow. I also strive to help everyone find the perfect literature to spark their interest in reading, so they can experience the same joy I get from reading a great book. I also believe that parents are their children’s first and best teacher, so I enjoy working with parents in any way I can to make sure each child is getting the most out of their time in the library academically and socially.

Before becoming your school librarian, I was a classroom teacher for 8 years. I loved being a classroom teacher, but was ready for a new adventure and to focus on technology and literacy, two of my favorite subjects. Also, before becoming a teacher/librarian, I first attended Oklahoma State University where I received my Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Sciences with concentration in Early Childhood Education. Then, I attended the University of Central Oklahoma and received my Master's in Library Media Education. This is my eighth year as the library media specialist at Cotteral Elementary.

I have been married to my wonderful husband Andy for 15 years. He works for DHS and is a freelance all things cars writer, with a degree in journalism so we both have a love of literature. I read it, and he writes it. I have one wonderful adopted son Donell, who is 17. My son is a Senior in High School, plays the trombone and is looking towards a career in graphic design. We also have more than our fair share of animals with 3 dogs and 4 cats. I help run a local dog rescue, so I come across a lot of animals in need. They keep us very busy and well entertained. In my free time I love reading, and building and designing websites. I also sew a variety of things, have a wonderful butterfly garden, and am currently working with my dachshund Max who is a certified therapy dog.

I am excited to work with all of you this year. If you have any questions or need any help with the library, please do not hesitate to ask. I would be glad to help.
