Guthrie High School Commencement Delayed Until July 17th
Due to the current conditions with regard to the spread of Covid-19 in Oklahoma and following established guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and the Oklahoma State Department of Health, the commencement ceremonies that were scheduled for this Friday will be postponed until July 17th. This follows the plan announced by the district on May 5th setting the ceremonies for June 26th only if the social distancing recommendation had been lifted statewide. The July 17th date will follow whatever conditions are in place at the time. In the event that social distancing recommendations are still in place at the time, the ceremony will be abbreviated and tickets will be required to attend. Students will be limited to 4 tickets. The procedure for disbursement of the tickets will be announced at a later date.
The entire plan announced on May 5th is available at the following link: https://www.guthrieps.net/vimages/shared/vnews/stories/5eb224f3881e0/Graduation%20Provisions%202020.pdf
Quotes from Guthrie Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mike Simpson:
“Obviously, we had hoped to have our graduation this Friday. When the plan was drafted in early May, we were optimistic that a full ceremony without attendance restrictions could occur. We are still hopeful we accommodate such a ceremony in July, but we will place the safety of our graduates and their families first. We truly appreciate the patience of the community as these are unprecedented times.”
