Launch the media gallery 1 playerMarch 29, 2020 The past few days have been something we could have never imagined only a couple of months ago. On Wednesday, March 25th, the State Board of Education ordered all school buildings to be closed for the remainder of the school year. The board further ordered that each district develop a framework for distance learning. State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister, made it very clear how this looks will vary greatly between school districts. Instruction will resume on April 6th in the subjects of Math and Reading in grades PK‐12 until May 8th. With the uncertainty presented by the current situation, some parts of this plan could be modified based on changing conditions. Attached to this letter, you will find the plan our leadership team has developed in a very short time. I’ve heard from numerous community members about their frustration surrounding the uncertainty of many rites of passage for the Class of 2020. I share in their frustration. Unfortunately, the near‐future does not look promising for the upcoming prom or graduation. I truly wish I had better news to share. We will do everything in our power to provide the recognition they so richly deserve but how that looks is hard to predict. Finally, I want to share that I know the situation we have been presented is less than ideal. I worry about the lost instruction and the effect it will have on our students. We must continue to fight this invisible virus we now call COVID‐19 by following the advice of experts. I’ve learned that Bluejays make the best with what they are given and find success. Although this is definitely an extreme time, I know we will accomplish that once again.
