Welcome to Spanish class!!  This is going to be an exciting year for us. I look forward to getting to know you. Below, I have listed some important information about this class. Please ask questions if you do not understand what is expected of you.

Spanish II

Students will develop intermediate proficiency in the four areas of Language: reading, writing, listening and speaking.  Class will be conducted primarily in Spanish.  Spanish II is a course that builds  upon the basic communication skills mastered  in the Spanish I course. The student will be studying advanced vocabulary and grammatical concepts. The student will be expected to use these skills and communication within situations studied. In addition the student will study aspects of Hispanic culture and history through a variety of media and culture activities.

Goals and Objectives

  • To build on basic structures learned in introductory Spanish
  • To attain intermediate competence and proficiency in Spanish
  • To use and understand Spanish effectively in social situations
  • To be familiar with Spanish-speaking cultures.
  • To develop and pursue individual interests surrounding one’s Spanish language study.

My expectations

  • Be positive
  • Do not use negative words in English or Spanish. Shut up and stupid are words that are not words allowed in our classroom.
  • Do not talk about others or make fun of their mistakes. Making mistakes is part of learning something new and Spanish is new.
  • Be polite
  • Say please, thank you, excuse me, etc.
  • Do not eat or drink in class. You may bring a water bottle to class but only water.
  • Do not touch others items including items on the walls, bulletin boards, and my desk.  Do not sit at Teachers desk.
  • Do not interrupt my teaching. You must find an appropriate time to sharpen your pencil and throw away trash.
  • Do not speak while others are speaking
  • No cell phone or other electronic devices during  lesson time.

  Be prepared

  • Bring your notebook, paper, pencil, or pen to class everyday.

If you are late to class you will not be allowed to make up missed assignment.  If you are tardy to class you will be assigned detention to make up for time missed.

  • Make up tests/quizzes are to be made up during power hour with prior arrangements.

Grades:

The nature of studying a foreign language requires a person to use a wide variety of learning styles. We will be learning to speak Spanish,  but we will also be learning to read , write , and comprehend the spoken language.  Therefore you will be quizzed and tested in each of these areas.  You may expect  grades to be given  for vocabulary retention, reading comprehension,  listening comprehension, and writing skills (including spelling).  Campanitas~Duolingo 200 xp's are due every Friday.  ¡NO EXCUSAS!

Attendance: Class attendance is of the utmost importance for this course.  You are responsible for all material covered on days that you are absent.  If you are not present in class the day something is assigned, it is your responsibility to get and complete assignment.

Success:

This class requires your participation.  I will not stand and lecture for 45 minutes but when I am giving instruction you need to focus and follow along and take notes.  You will learn the language by participating in small groups, partners, and class activities.

Let's have a great school year and learn Spanish!  :)
